We all want success. Who doesn’t? But, what is success? A billion dollar? CEO? Olympic athlete? Or simply being happy?
The truth is, success does not always equate to monetary value. Success does however, relate to how well your life revolves around work, activity, and relationship. Success tells us who we are.
All you need is a few daily tweaks. Here are five simple things you can start today:
1. Build a Healthy Lifestyle
“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” - Jim Rohn
To achieve anything in life, it starts with a healthy body. Your body is like a temple. A place of sanctuary. And you must worship it.
Start doing some physical activity every day. Whether it’s cycling, crossfit, or even walking. Just do something. Small things every day adds up to something not small.
Taking care of your body also requires you to consume a healthy diet. Skip the fast food. Start a detox program. Be a vegetarian. Do Intermittent Fasting. The point is to turn your unhealthy habits to healthy ones.
2. Increase Your Curiosity
“The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways.” - Robert Greene
Hard work alone does not lead to success. There has to be some intelligence and talent involved. Of course innately talented people have a greater chance to succeed if they combine their talent with hard work. But for many of us, whose talents are minuscule, we need the help of our intelligence.
People who are curious tend to have better analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and overall intelligence. Curiosity is what also brings us forward as a species. And sometimes it’s just a matter of practice.
Start with something simple. Try a new routine, like convince your boss to allow you to work from home. Or do something challenging, like travel the world. The key is to make your life more interesting and be curious of the outcome.
3. Be Around Successful People
“If you want to be successful, spend time with people who are more successful than you.” - Naval Ravikant
The people around us will add up to who we become.
If you spend time with people who are less accomplished than you, they will drag you down. And your success with it.
But if you spend time with people who are more accomplished than you, they will drag you up. And your success with it.
4. Say “NO” to Toxic Media
“Consumption may be regarded as negative production.” - Alfred Marshall
Today’s society is very dependent on social media and television. Nearly everyone stares at their phones, walking like zombies. Attention has become a rarity. It's spreading like a disease. And what do we gain? Nothing!
Unless your life depends on either, you should minimize or eliminate your dependency. Instead, use your time doing something interesting, and adding skill or knowledge to your life.
Successful people are always more productive than those who are not.
5. Take the First Step
“Work is doing it. Discipline is doing it every day. Diligence is doing it well every day.” - Dave Ramsey
The easiest way to become something special is also the fastest: Just start doing it. Don't wait for the "right" time. Don't worry about not being qualified or accepted by your peers. Don't worry about making any money for it. Just start doing it.
You want to become a swimmer? Start dipping in the pool.
You want to become an entrepreneur? Start investing your money in a business.
You want to become a writer? Start writing everyday.
Don't waste your time taking about what you will do one day. Just start doing it.
Unless you have a goal, make achieving that goal a priority, and find a way to act on it every day, your chances of succeeding are very slim.
